Corazón Single Barrel Reposado Aged in E.H. Taylor Barrel
The time-honored art of making exceptional Tequila is a complex and laborious process. First comes ten years of patience as the Weber Blue Agave plants slowly mature in the highlands of Jalisco. Once harvested the heart of the plant, the Pina, is roasted then milled to extract the juice. The fresh juice is mixed with pure natural spring water, fermented then distilled under the expert eyes of The Master Distiller whose skills have been passed down from generation to generation. Time-tested experience, uncompromising passion, and an exacting hand in every step along the way is what it takes to make truly great tequila. Master Distiller Rocío Rodríguez is the driving force at Casa San Matias Distillery where Corazón Tequila is crafted. Under his expert guidance they produce a range of outstanding tequila including a handful of Single Barrel Expressions that are nothing less than extraordinary.
It was way back before Covid in 2019 that the Bottle Pros were first introduced to Corazón Single Barrel Tequilas. Among samples we tasted was one drawn from a cask which previously held E.H. Taylor Bourbon that stood head and shoulders above the others. Discussions were had, hands were shaken, and an agreement was struck for us to acquire this fine liquid. In comes Covid, the mess of supply chain issues and a million other factors that put the deal on the backburner till it was all but forgotten. Fast forward to 2023 and much to our surprise and delight, the tequila had been bottled and tucked away in a corner of the distillery only to be found for us three years later. Corazón Single Barrel Reposado Tequila was aged in E.H. Taylor barrels for approximately 10 months before bottling. This resting time gave the spirit a richness and layering of flavors that can only be found in the best of Tequilas.
The nose is subtly floral (jasmine) with a hints of barrel spice and a bit of grassiness. First sip rolls off the tongue with a creamy texture, weight, and a pleasant dose of vanilla. Lingering over the glass we find classic pepper spice, an underlying earthiness along with sweet Bourbon notes and a touch of tropical fruit. It is a mellow, round, and rich Tequila that lingers on the palate and offers enjoyment far beyond its modest price of $36.99.
In a world where great Tequila’s are selling upward of $100 a bottle, Corazón E.H. Taylor Single Barrel Reposado Tequila is an amazing value. Cinco de Mayo is next week, and the summer Tequila season is just starting. We have very limited supply of this fantastic juice to go around so swing by and grab a few, because when this one is gone, it’s gone, and the only thing left will be the memories. |
