Bodegas Bagordi Rioja Tinto

Just ahead of the pandemic, in January 2020 – our team had come across a sleeper Rioja producer whose wines (up to that point) we had never tasted.  Since bringing in various offerings from this estate and selling them out at breakneck pace, we’ve been following them closely to ensure we snatch up the very little stock to make its way stateside.

We’re now three years into enjoying their wines and sure enough, we have another stunner from their portfolio to offer up.  From the fabulous 2021 vintage – which many vintners describe as a ‘dream’ – Bodegas Bagordi’s Rioja Tinto is one that left our Sommelier led tasting team in awe.  Crafted from a majority of Tempranillo with a healthy addition of Garnacha, this is a decidedly vibrant, energetic style of Rioja perfectly suited to a wide array of palates.  Aged in new oak for a few months prior to release, there’s a significant level of depth to this bottle without an excessive feeling.

There’s a purity of fruit, layers of earth and savory notes, as well as an uncanny length you simply never find at this price.  This drinks like it’s been in the works for 14 generations and quite frankly, like it should cost a lot more.
